About Us


What is AASU?
The Asian American Student Union (AASU) is a coalition of Asian Pacific American (APA) organizations on campus and acts as the main voice of the APA community on campus.

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Asian American Student Union is to provide service, representation, and advocacy for the Asian Pacific American community at the University of Maryland.

Our Structure
The structure of the AASU consists of the executive board, task force committees, programming committees, affiliated APA organizations and general membership.

Who can join?
Membership is open to all undergraduate students who agree with the mission statement. We are not exclusive of any race, ethnicity, gender, orientation or religion.

Why should you join?
Students should join to:

  • Learn about APA identity and related issues.
  • Become aware of issues concerning the community.
  • Make a difference in the on and off campus communities.
  • Get involved and have FUN!

We are here as a resource for students:

-to be able to learn more about Asian/Pacific-Islander American (APA) history, culture  identities and issues from attending our events.

 

-to offer opportunities to develop leadership skills by leading and serving as part of our committees.  

 -to offer a place for students of all ethnicities and backgrounds to share their voice on our blog. 

 

 

We are here as a resource for APA student organizations:

 

-to collaborate with all APA student organizations and encourage inter-collaboration between groups.

 

 

-to assist in doing campus processes (such as growing your organization, applying for funding, etc.) that your club may not be familiar with or not know.

 

 

-to promote your events for free on our listserv, website and meetings by request.

 

 

-to give your club connection with outside APA organizations and with University administrators.

 

 

-to provide a united community of APA student organizations. 

 

 

We are here for non-APA student organizations:

 

-to collaborate in working towards fostering greater understanding of diversity and enlightening ignorance.

 

 

-to assist in promoting events on our listserv, website and meetings on request. 

 

 

We are here for University staff and administrators:

 

-to be a resource and representative of the APA student body on campus and be a voice for the collective APA community.

 

-to forward opportunities for students on our listserv, website and meetings on request. 

 

We are here for APA non-profit organizations:

 

-to work together in educating students on past and present APA issues

 

 

-to promote opportunities for students on our listserv, website and meetings on request.
